Part 1: The Unknown Letters The days of peace went on long years after the ring was destroyed. The people of Gondor began to retake their country under the reign of the last king Arogorn son of Arathorn, the dwarves began to retake Moria, they had sent fleets of dwarves, working with elves, (not to mention how tough it was at first for the stubborness ofdwarves to break through and get some help from the elves of Mirkwood) to the mines to kill the off orcs that still remained there and to clean out the mines and fill it with the of old that was once before spoken of. Neadless to say the troups marched in together at the lead of to brave and fierce veterans of The War of The Ring, Gimli and Legolas. Life in the Shire went on as mostly was the way, not affected at all by the troubles of the outside world. Only one hobbit, the most unlikely of all, longed for another adventure. Old SamWise Gamgee, whom had become like his old Gaffer telling tales of news of the outside, longed for a great adventure, his children had come of age and his wife would soon die of some long since forgotten disease. He had began walking out in the forests, trying to find groups of elves to tell him news. He had learned of the retaking of Moria where they had run into that dreadful creature called a balrog, and also of the basic reconstruction of Gondor. He had heard rumors that Gondor builders might begin making a colony in what once was Mordor. The tower of Isengard had been torn down, and Saruman turned to do the only thing that he could do, good. That main area became the meeting spot for when all the ents came together. Saruman now hepled to replant trees that would eventually spring forth to replace old friends of the ents. Merry and Pippin also wanted to join Sam, they had started in an odd fashion of collecting maps of Middle-Earth. In their minds they thought of routes they could take, they remembered still the directions of which they took to through there journey of the past. All who were in the fellowship still looked and felt young as when they were in their journey, that bond couldn't be cut, strange sideaffect though it was. They did not expect the day that the letter came. One of the big folk came on his great steed, he was hooded and cloaked with what looked to be a dark green uniform, and his breeches were also made of a dark green material. He put a letter in Sam's, Pippin's, and Merry's mailboxes and left the Shire. Sam walked out to his mailbox with a confused look on his face, it was rare for him to even have mail these days, never had he gotten mail from what he called a "special delivery" of the big folk. He reached into the depths of his mailbox and pulled out a small well-weathered looking envelope marked with a seal unknown to him, (it looked like a crows head in black outline with read to fill in the eyes. Sam opened it and as he stood out side he read it to himself. "Dear Sir SamWise: You have been chosen for a quest, the details will be described when you get here, if you do. It is no burden upon us whether you care or not to come, we were just hoping that you, being one that helped destroy the ring old power might want to come. It will not be easy but we have sent letters to several other men through out this world. Among them are two that we know you know called Pippin Took and Merry Brandybuck. We are located in Starkhorn. Which is near Rohan, I'm sure you have a map, find your way. The reason you must travel is because we must see if you can make it, it is a test of endurance, strength, bravery, and knowledge. When you get here, you will be asked a riddle, you must chose the right answer, if not, well let's just say the consequences are dier. We hope to see you soon. Marked, ______." Sam ran to the Green Dragon which is where Merry and Pippin went after much anything that happened. He found them sitting in a corner. "You guys get one a these." Merry and Pippin both slid their letters to the middle of the table. "Got it this mornin', I said 'Hullo' to the man who delivered it, but rude are the big folk, he just disregarded me." Sam wiped the sweat from his brow and asked, "Well, are we gonna do it." Merry and Pippin instantly stood up, "O, course." they said both at the same time. "Well then we best be plannin'." Merry, Pippin, and Sam started planning, with maps, decisions on how they could lighten their load, and also with checks. Once they were packed they checked everything thrice, Sam's children would look after their mother, they thought him irresponsible for it. They chose three good oak walking sticks, checked the belts which their swords hung from, and walked off into the winding roads, to face perils yet unknown.
*P.S. Please tell me if you like this, there are more parts to come yet! *

Part 2: Winters Eve Sam, Merry, and Pippin walked through the Old Forest in hopes that their old friend Tom Bombadil might let them rest at his house for the night. They were, by a common days march, a fortnight out of the Shire. Their way took them through many paths made by themen of ages long past.As they passed the tree which had almost devoured Merry and Pippin they heard a familiar tune:
'Hey dol! merry dol! rin a dong dillo! Ring a dong! hop along! fal lal the willow! Tom Bom, jolly tom, Tom Bombadillo!'
"It's Tom!" they all said in great surprise, they began to skip down the path going rather fast, for hobbits. They saw his jolly face further down the path, he was clad in his tall battered hat with a feather in it, his yellow boots, some form of blue trousers, and his blue coat which was under his long brown beard. "Hullo, little friends!" he said, waving. "What are you doing in these parts on a day such as this?" "We're travelling to Starkhorn." said Sam. "Could we perhaps rest at your humble abode, we would be most gracious?" "O' course you can come friends, tonight is a night of celebration, tis Winter's Eve! Goldberry will be making special food tonight, 'nough to fill ten men, though I think we can handle it with five people." All four walked to the house of Tom Bombadil. Once they got there the hobbits burdens were loosened. The smell of brewing tea and cooking roast filled the air, it smelt almost heavenly. Goldberry, as beautiful as ever, greeted them with a smile as they entered and Tom put up his hat to reveal a bald headwith hair down to the sides tied off in neatly separated tails. Sam, Merry, and Pippin sat down after laying down their packs. Tom got out his pipe, put in some form of tobacco called Red Carp, and lit it. The hobbits pulled out their pipes also as Tom offered them some and they started smoking. Sam spoke of their journey, the route which they would take, and all else. As per their talk, Tom told them about Winter's Eve. Winter's Eve was the celebration of the coming of the last season of the year. There was a special feast and a bead was given to each guest, the bead was supposed to be good for one wish. After the feast four candles, green, yellow, brown, and white, were lit and burned until the wick diminished. The melted wax was put away in a jar for later use. Then the rest of the night was spent telling myths and legends of old. These festivities were carried out that night, they all filled their stomachs to the brim. They laughed and spoke many stories including the one of the ring which would eventually pass through so many generations that it would later become a story in a book. They slept like stones that night, not a stir did they make. The next morning, after breakfast, the filled their water skeins, filled their food sacks, packed up their beddings, and their beads were put on silver chains around their necks for good luck and a wish that they didn't yet make. They waved goodbye to Tom on the edge of the Old Forest. Their walking sticks in hand, they set out for their next destination, Bree.

(Sorry I haven't written in a while, writer's block ) Part 3: The Glowing Night They had travelled a fortnight from the house of Tom Bombadil when it began to rain. The forest showing in a flashing light that was lightening. They went into a small cave and set up for the night. Sam set up the fire as Pippin and Merry put up a line to set their clothes upon so they could let them dry. After they had eaten they packed up leftovers and pulled out their sleeping materials, they pulled out their pipes and had a smoke. "We will sleep here tonight." Sam said. "Perhaps the rain will stop by the morning." replied Pippin. "Yes and then we can go forth fast. Where are we to go to tomorrow?" asked Merry. "We will go to the Prancing Pony, good lodgings for a night. That is still perhaps 20 miles away." Sam confirmed. "Twenty miles, we've done moore'n'at on a bad day. Ain't we boys?" They both shook their heads in confirmation. "We should sleep now though, for their is a long day ahead of us tomorrow. I'll take first watch, then Pippin, then Merry, then back to me in hour shifts." said Sam, puffing up a ring of smoke. They all agreed upon this arrangement. As Pippin and Merry drifted into sleep Sam thought about the letter, he took it out and loked it over again one then twice. Others were chosen as well, perhaps they might meet up with some old companions of the long past. He put the letter away and slightly dozed offf for a moent until a blue light flashed in the room, except thius was no lightening flash it was Sting glowing, orcs were about. He looked over to warn Pippin and Merry, they were gone. The fire was out and he knew what had happened. He kept Sting in front of him as a lighted guide. He looked over a ledge and saw two orcs carrying two bags holding two hobbits. He ran down behind the orcs being quie, as a hobbit he was scurrying naturally inaudibly. The orcs did not even recognize the coming light because they had their own torches. Sam Ran up behind them and stabbed one right in the spine knocking him down yelling out in both surprise and terror. The other turned around and through down the sack which made a feint sound of pain. The two sacks stood side by side as the orc pulled out his own weapon whihc was asword undoubtedly won in a battle which were still not uncommon in even these days. "This fuse," he said holding the torch to a small piece of string, "will burn down to the cave depths where our tribe is and they will come running for a fight. It's time to light it." The orc threw the torch down at it and it began, the orc thrust his sword down with Sam blocking and kicking him where it hurt. A hobbits greatest atribute in a battle, size. The orc put his hands on his knees and coughed, as he did so Sam pulled Sting above his head and swung with all his might, chopping off the orc's head. It rolled down the path as if a ball. He opened both the sacks and him Merry and Pippin ran off, up and out of the cave. Putting out their campfire and grabbing their ruck sacks as they went, they ran. The rain still poured on the dark night as they ran as fast as they could with their legs paining them. After about a half a mile Sting began to glow again. Then suddenly they had ran into a small village where five guards watched. "Orcs are coming!" Sam said in short breaths. "A whole tribe!" One of the guards yelled "Inside," pointing to a small hovel, and as they went in they heard a horn, one of the village. They heard many men getting up and shuffling to the grounds. They listened as best they could to the battle, screams, grunts, battle cries. The finally an orcish horn that ment to retreat. Sam pulled the hilt of Sting from its sheath and watched as the light that glowed within it slowly faded. They were safe once again. They heard as men trudged back to their residences and some to the infirmary, amzingly there were only fifty casualties, all upon the orcs. They waited with baited breath as they heard footsteps aproaching, perhaps a greeter for the new arrivals. As the door slowly glided open with as creaking noise they held their breath.

Part 4: The Black Puddle A large man clad in silver armour came through the door, "Hello," he said in a gesture of gentle greeting. "I am James, son of Thane, and colonel of this villages small defense array." "I am Sam," commented Sam. "I am Merry," said Merry. "And I am Pippin," anounced Pippin. "Did you three have some kind of a disagreement with the orcs?" asked the big man. "Me and Pippin were captured," said Merry. "I had woken up 'bout an hour after first watch and saw Sam asleep. I pulled him into the shadows and sat by the fire, two orcs got me and Pippin, without much effort, and they put us eachb in a sack. Next thing we know we here a battle, then we're released." "Sam freed us," added Pippin. "He fought, as a true warrior would, against the orcs! Then he cut us out of those dreadfully stifling bags." "I hardly fought as any great warrior," said Sam not wanting to be called anything among great soldiers. "Though I did fight for my friends, with Sting, the sword given to me by Mr. Frodo, after our big adventure into the pits of Mount Doom." "Wait, are you thee Sam Wise Gamgee?" James asked. "Not telling, but yes, that is the name that I was born with." The man dropped onto one knee saying, "We have heard so many great stories and songs of your adventures, bravery, and loyalty. You are very highly considered in my land." "Why thank you." Sam said with a blush. "How would you and your friends like to come with me to our local pub called The Dark Puddle, great ale, and best pipe weed in all of Middle-Earth, we'll drink until we're drunk and sober again." The hobbit all three jumped up as the chance for a relaxing drink or pipe. "Okay then, I guess you guys want to go now then?" "Of course," they said all in unison. They gathered their packs and followed James. The rain had stopped and the dirt roads had turned to mud and mush. They walked along the mud path, Sam realizing had no longer had their walking sticks, Merry and Pippin wondeing what kind of pipe weed they had, and James walking high and strong with a smile and sense of pride. They came to a building with lanturn lights on inside, a sign hung out above the door THE BLACK PUDDLE. They walked inside of the pub, not many besides soldiers who had fought that night. The bar tender walked up to the front of the bar and asked them what they'd have. Merry and Pippin both got some of the places best pipe tobacco, while James and Sam both ordered a pint of warm cider to tid ethem over. They sat at a table in a corner of the pub. "What are you doing out in these parts, we haven't seen a hobbit in many a year?" asked James. "We are on another adventure, this one though is a strange one we are supposed to go to a set place. We each got a letter." James trembled a little at this and searched through his pockets he fished out a small letter and handed it to Sam, "Is this like them?" he asked. Sam looked over the letter and read it over once, then twice, and then thrice. He handed the letter back to James who put it back in his pocket. "Yes, this is like our letters, exactly to the note. Why haven't you left yet?" Sam conversed. "I didn't feel it was my time to leave yet. Maybe we are destined to journey together." James said. Merry blew out a skilled smoke ring then added, "Perhaps we are destined. I believe such things can happen." Pippin, who's eyes had gone half way down, revealing his tiredness, laughed and added, "I believe, too. These things happen every day, just seldomly to us." "Will you travel with us, tommorrow?" Sam said, knowing full well that they had already passed the midnight hour. "Yes," James said. "I just need to get my priorities shuffled, name a new colonel to control our small band of soldiers. I'll get you two weapons," he said looking at Pippin and Merry, "sounds like you need them." They smiled and asked where they could find an inn. "The Black Puddle itself is an inn, so you guys can stay here and sleep as I work. You do look tired, so I shall leave you until the next dark. Be here when the lanturns go on in here. I will come then." They got a room with three small beds and James left the pub/inn to go sort out his priorities. The next day they would start their journey up where they left off.

I must tell all who view this that me and my friend are working on proofreading this story. Since I haven't read the books all the way through a lot of the stuff in it could not be true, so me and my friend are going to make it a lot better and I'm going to repost it as The Silent Corruption(Revised Edition). I have to give props to The Last King, my good friend who has helped me a lot with this. I will post it in a little bit, so, those that are actually reading this I ask you to wait patiently.

I have never noticed this existing before, but I must say based on it being by you and The Last King I probably don't feel like reading it while I feel all romantic right now.

I only read part 1, but I just want to point out at the end of book 3 Saruman was killed, so he realy shouldn't be planting trees in Isengard. And also, it's spelled Aragorn, not Arogorn

I see in your eyes, the same fear that would take the heart of me! A day may come, when the courage of men fails. When we forsake our friends and break all bonds of Fellowship! But it is not this day. An hour of wolves, and shattered shields when the age of men comes crashing down!
